Be consistent. If you laugh the first time you toddler throws a toy, he will likely throw it again and again. If you get angry with him the fourth time he throws it, he will be confused. Without consistent direction from you, he will do what he wants to – not necessarily what you want him to do.

For the past 25 years, Dr. Chandler has been successfully helping parents whose kids are "driving them crazy!" Almost always, the underlying issue turns out to be discipline. Whether their problems are mild or severe, she is able to help about 95 percent of these parents make enormous progress in just one or two weeks. Within a month, their discipline problems are largely solved – and stay solved.

The key to her extraordinary success is the “4C’s” system of consequence-based discipline Dr. Chandler developed and refined over many years. It is a set of techniques based on scientifically proven behavioral principles combined with her expertise in child development .

Four Weeks to a Better Behaved Child describes the same clear, step-by-step instructions that Dr. Chandler has taught more than a thousand parents in her private practice. It also answers the questions parents ask most often. It explains why her system of discipline works and why some other commonly-used methods often fail.

Why Does This Discipline System Work? How Does It Differ from Others?

Why does this discipline system work for parents who have had only partial success or even complete failure with others? There are several important differences.

First, Four Weeks is easy to read, and Dr. Chandler’s techniques get results very fast. By contrast, some books on child discipline are so complicated that parents just quit reading. Others describe techniques that require months of effort before any change in behavior occurs.

Second, this book overturns some commonly-held but mistaken beliefs. For instance:

  • Many parents believe that punishment is the single most powerful discipline tool at their disposal. Not true! This book explains why punishment is often the least effective discipline technique.
  • Most parents feel guilty and worried about angry interchanges. Despite those concerns, many believe that anger is sometimes the only way they can get their children to behave. Four Weeks explains why anger never works, and provides some discipline principles and techniques that do.
  • Countless parents have told Dr. Chandler, "I've tried Time Out. It doesn't work!" And sometimes it doesn't, for a variety of reasons. What does work is Dr. Chandler's Cool Down technique.  While similar to Time Out in many ways, it corrects that technique's potential flaws. In Four Weeks, Dr. Chandler explains the behavioral foundation for Cool Down and provides clear, specific, step-by-step instructions for her technique. The result: consistent success
